Although this article only has a little to do with our hosting service, we thought this was the best topic for it....so here it is.  If any of you out there are thinking of installing Windows 2003 server as a dev' platform, or for intranet office use, this may be of interest to you.

We discovered recently that the MS updates are not always what you require for the correct functioning of your windows 2k3 server.

There are two versions of MS Windows 2003 Server Service Pack 1 available from Microsoft.

The one on the regular updates site is the basic version, available either as an automatic install from the upldates site or as a Networked Installable download. This version is fine for the vast majority of users, and indeed is a required component for the correct functioning of your Windows Server.

The crux of this article is that there is another version of SP1 for 2003 server.
The other version is required if you  have multiple users using the IIS hosting services provided by IIS6 and using Sharepoint.

Oh, and if you are wondering whre the other SP1 WITH sharepoint can be found....
